Penn CHIPS Spring Kudos!

  • Dori Abel, MD, Penn CHIPS MSHP HQS Concentration student, presented her abstract titled “Assessing Medication Adherence in JIA: Pilot Phase Results from a Single-Center Quality Improvement Initiative” at the Pediatric Rheumatology Symposium.
  • Mary Blackwell BSN, RN, CPN, CPHQ, Penn CHIPS MHQS student, has been promoted to Safety Quality Manager at CHOP.
  • Christine D. Franciscovich, MSN, CRNP, NNP-BC, LSSGB, Penn CHIPS MHQS student, had her abstract titled “Reducing Automated Dispensing Cabinet Overrides in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit” accepted for an oral presentation at Pediatric Academic Societies conference for the Pediatric Therapeutics and Pharmacology session and poster presentation at the APA 12th Annual Quality Improvement Research Conference.
  • Sara Ginzberg, MD, Penn CHIPS MSHP HQS Concentration student, presented a portion of the findings from a study specifically focused on the impact of adverse events on surgical trainees at the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery 2023 Surgical Trainee Paper Competition. Her presentation was selected as the first-place winner.
  • Sara Ginzberg, MD, Penn CHIPS MSHP HQS Concentration student, and her surgical team (HUP Cedar Surgery QI Workgroup) were selected to receive an Honorable Mention for HAP’s 2023 Living the Vision Award as part of our annual Achievement Award program for their submission “An Innovative Approach to Providing High-Quality Surgical Care for a Safety-Net Hospital in a Hub-and-Spoke Relationship”.
  • Elena Huang, MD, Penn CHIPS MHQS student, had two posters accepted to the Pediatric Academic Societies conference for her work titled “Disparities and Barriers Identified through a Longitudinal Initiative to Improve Resident-Patient Continuity” and “Resident Quality Improvement Initiative to Decrease Disparities in Management of Lead Poisoning in Continuity Clinic”.
  • Naomi Hughes, MD, Penn CHIPS MHQS student, had a poster accepted to the Pediatric Academic Societies conference for her work titled “Improving Emergency Department Throughput During Viral Surge in a New Satellite Pediatric Emergency Department”.
  • Katie Pumphrey, MD, Penn CHIPS MSHP HQS Concentration student, and Penn CHIPS faculty Jess Hart, MD, MHQS and Dan Hyman, MD, MMM were accepted to present a workshop at APA’s 12 Annual Quality Improvement Research Conference titled “Be the Change: Incorporating Change Management into your QI Study Design for Sustainable Results”.
  • Avery Zierk, MD, Penn CHIPS Certificate Student was selected as one of five 2023 AAP/VON scholars. This award recognizes future leaders in newborn care who exemplify dedication to data-driven quality improvement in the care of infants and families.
  • Congratulations are in order for several of our Penn CHIPS Fellows who had 3 out of the 5 top abstracts at CHOP’s 12th annual Quality and Safety Day! Coming in at first place was Evan Dalton, MD, MSHP for his work titled “Improving Agitation Management in the Medical Behavioral Unit”, second place went to Kim Tran Lopez, DO for her initiative titled “Back to the Bedside: A Trainee-Led Quality Improvement Initiative to Improve Family-Centered Rounding”, and in fifth place was Dayna Mazza, MD, MSHP for her work titled “Improving Pneumococcal Vaccination Rates Among High-Risk Patients with NS at CHOP Main and Satellite Sites”. We are pleased to recognize Evan, Kim, and Dayna for their important efforts to improve health care and wish them continued success!
